Garden Grove Police Officer Critically Injured in Pursuit
A police officer was critically injured early this morning in Garden Grove after being struck by a vehicle while pursuing an armed suspect.
The incident unfolded shortly after midnight when officers from the Garden Grove Police Department responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon at the intersection of Stanford Avenue and Brookhurst Street. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man wielding a knife, who was reportedly involved in the assault.
According to law enforcement, the suspect disregarded officers’ commands and attempted to flee the scene, initiating a foot chase. Tragically, during this pursuit, an oncoming vehicle struck one of the officers.
The identity of the injured officer has not been disclosed, but they have been hospitalized and are currently in critical condition.
Officials confirmed that the vehicle involved in the incident was unrelated to the armed suspect. There has been no announcement regarding potential charges against the driver of the vehicle.
