In a recent interview, Elle Fanning expressed her desire to start a family one day. Speaking at the Los Angeles premiere of Neon’s Sentimental Value, the 27-year-old actress affirmed that motherhood is “definitely” on her radar.
Fanning shared insights about the film, which follows sisters Nora and Agnes as they reconnect with their estranged father. She noted that working on the Norwegian drama helped her understand her own family dynamics better.
“The beauty of this film lies in its universal themes. It tells the story of a broken family and the traumas passed down through generations,” Elle said. “There’s a kind of healing power in art. I’m not sure if complete healing is possible, but it can open the door to understanding and forgiveness.”
Commenting on the film’s narrative structure, she added, “It doesn’t tie everything up into a perfect bow, but that’s what I find appealing about it.”
While Fanning is not in a hurry to embrace motherhood, she announced an exciting upcoming project with her sister, Dakota Fanning. The siblings will co-star in an adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s best-selling novel, The Nightingale.
Reflecting on their transition from siblings to co-stars, Elle expressed confidence that their strong bond would enhance their on-screen chemistry, stating, “I think we’re going to have to be fellow actors on set, but we bring a little bit of our sister dynamic to the role.”
Dakota, who is 31, also shared her thoughts on their collaboration. She admitted feeling “a bit nervous” about their first project together but emphasized their excitement for the film. “For a while, we were very conscious of carving our own paths. We don’t feel that pressure anymore,” she said, noting their different journeys as artists.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the project, Dakota added, “It’s the best to be able to come together now. We’re very excited about The Nightingale. A little nervous, but excited.”

As the sisters prepare for their roles, Elle noted the importance of balancing their familial relationship with their professional collaboration. While they are excited about the opportunity, Dakota admitted to still feeling some apprehension. “It is nice to be able to come together now without that pressure,” she remarked, expressing their eagerness for what lies ahead in The Nightingale.
