Queen Camilla’s Son Shares a Funny Take on Becoming a Prince
Tom Parker Bowles Jokes About Potential Prince Title Amid Royal Family Discussion
Tom Parker Bowles recently lightheartedly suggested that if he were to become a prince, the gates of Buckingham Palace would be “stormed.” The food writer and son of Queen Camilla made these remarks during an appearance on Samuel Goldsmith’s "Good Food" podcast, shedding light on his awareness of his position in the British royal family.
"I think we’re fairly balanced and sober and sensible country on the whole, but if I suddenly became prince, I think Buckingham Palace gates would be stormed," Parker Bowles remarked. "It would be appalling. Really, no… I think that would put back the long and glorious cause of the monarchy in Britain by many years, no."
Goldsmith playfully responded that Parker Bowles "might get [his] own Netflix show" if he were granted a title, to which Parker Bowles replied thoughtfully, "I wouldn’t mind that!"
Born to Queen Camilla and her former husband, Andrew Parker Bowles, Tom has navigated his unique role within the royal narrative. He was 30 when his mother married then-Prince Charles in April 2005. The couple also shares a daughter, Laura Lopes. Both children were adults at the time of their mother’s marriage.
Parker Bowles has frequently expressed positive views on blended families, sharing that his children, Lola and Freddy, have developed a fondness for King Charles, whom he describes as a "wonderful step-grandfather." He explained, "All of our children—my sister’s children, too—have grown up with Gaga and Uppa," referring to the affectionate nicknames for their grandparents. He added, "They’ve grown up from an early age knowing no different. [They know] Gaga as Gaga, and that she’s a really great grandmother who occasionally spoils them in a good way."
He also clarified his place in the royal fold, noting, "We are married in, we are not the royal family." He emphasized the camaraderie he feels with family members, stating, “I find everyone incredibly nice and friendly, and we’ve known them all for a long time. It does seem natural.”
As the conversation surrounding the monarchy continues to evolve, Parker Bowles’ candid reflections offer a glimpse into the contemporary dynamics of royal family life.
