Shooting Incident on New Year’s Eve Results in Fatality in Northridge
A New Year’s Eve confrontation at an apartment complex in Northridge left one man dead after an encounter with an off-duty Homeland Security officer, according to police reports.
Authorities from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to the scene at the intersection of Roscoe Boulevard and Amestoy Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, following reports of a man allegedly firing a rifle and shooting into the air.
An off-duty officer present in the area conducted an investigation after hearing the gunfire. During the incident, the suspect was shot by the officer and subsequently died at the scene, as confirmed by the LAPD.
At this time, specific details regarding the events leading to the shooting remain unclear. Efforts to obtain further comments from the Department of Homeland Security are underway, and both LAPD and DHS officers continued their investigation at the location Thursday morning.
