Wicked: Enjoy a Special New Year’s Eve Encore; Snoop Dogg’s Show Change Announced
NBC Announces New Year’s Eve Programming Changes
NBC will air a special encore presentation of Wicked: One Wonderful Night on New Year’s Eve from 8 to 10 PM ET/PT. This announcement comes in light of the cancellation of Snoop Dogg’s planned New Year’s Eve special, which has been replaced.
Originally scheduled to air live at 10:30 PM ET/PT, Snoop Dogg’s two-hour special was canceled last month due to his commitments related to the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics. Snoop Dogg remarked, “Sometimes the calendar gets in the way of the celebration.” In its place, NBC will present A Toast to 2026!, a two-hour retrospective featuring special guests including Ethan Slater, Jim Gaffigan, Tiffany Haddish, Bobby Moynihan, and David Alan Grier, highlighting memorable and humorous moments from pop culture over the past year.
Wicked: One Wonderful Night, which aired for the first time on November 6, attracted 3.6 million viewers across platforms in just three days, making it NBC’s second-best special of the year, trailing only behind SNL50: The Anniversary Special.
Filmed at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, the special stars Wicked: For Good actors Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who are joined by co-stars Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, and Marissa Bode. A highlight of the program includes an emotional reunion featuring Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth, Erivo, and Grande performing “For Good” from the Gershwin Theatre in New York City, the original venue of the Wicked Broadway production.
Since its release on November 21, Wicked: For Good has garnered nearly $400 million at the global box office. The upcoming presentation of Wicked: One Wonderful Night is produced by Fulwell Entertainment, with Ben Winston and Raj Kapoor serving as executive producers.
