On December 30, the singer posted a tearful selfie on her Instagram Stories, revealing her feelings of sadness after a challenging year. The 37-year-old has been open with her fans about her journey since announcing her breast cancer diagnosis in June.
“In a world full of ‘everything is fine, I’m happy, I’m good, life is perfect,’ there is grief, hurt, pain, sadness, heartbreak and reflection and processing happening this time of year for many of us,” she expressed. “This year has been heavy and hard in many ways for all of us. For me personally, one of the hardest but most magical years of my life. Personally and professionally.”

This week marked the first time she has stopped working or appearing in public in months, leading her to feel overwhelmed as “all the sadness has come up.” In a candid revelation, she stated, “So I’m crying a lot. Writing stuff down, feeling really low to be honest— the lowest I have felt in a while. An accumulation of stuff just making its way to the surface and I’m letting it out.”
To her followers, she advised against suppressing emotions: “We are not superhuman or meant to be happy and positive all the time. It’s healthy and normal to cry, and if someone you love is crying don’t say ‘oh don’t cry’, say ‘come here.’” She added, “Sending love to anyone feeling this way too right now. No positive end to this. Just I’m with ya. It’s tough sometimes.”

Jessie J first revealed her diagnosis on June 3 in an Instagram post. Following her diagnosis, she underwent a mastectomy and later announced that her cancer was “all gone.” However, her journey has included struggles; she was hospitalized for a suspected blood clot in her lungs six weeks post-surgery but assured fans she was recovering well.
As she continues her recovery, Jessie J has conveyed her passion for music and her desire to live fully in the moment. “Life is layered and has highs and lows, and we just have to keep living through all of it, the best we can,” she remarked. “So here I am. LIVING.” She has since indicated that a second surgery may be necessary in the near future.
