Insights Into Kelsey Grammer’s Relationship With Daughter Greer
Greer Grammer recently shared details about her complicated relationship with her father, actor Kelsey Grammer, during an episode of the Pretty Basic Podcast. The 33-year-old actress revealed that she reconnected with Kelsey at the age of 16 after a 12-year estrangement.
In a candid moment, Greer recalled one of the most hurtful suggestions Kelsey made to her mother. According to her, Kelsey had suggested that Greer change her last name to make her life easier. "I think I was like 19 when he told me that and I just started sobbing," she reflected, adding that it felt like an acknowledgment of his absence in her life.
Greer explained that her father’s suggestion stemmed from a conversation he had with her mother, during which he mentioned, "It might be better for you to not have my last name. It would be easier for you growing up." This statement left Greer feeling profoundly hurt, as she interpreted it as a sign that Kelsey anticipated he wouldn’t be a part of her life.
Despite the emotional weight of the revelation, Greer recognized that Kelsey’s suggestion had a degree of fairness. “He’s not wrong,” she said.
The actress also addressed misconceptions about her early life, noting that while many believe she didn’t know her father until their reunion at 16, she did have some memories of him. She vividly recalled a moment when they crossed paths during her community service as Miss Teen Malibu at a Christmas tree lot. Their conversation sparked a series of meetings, marking the beginning of their renewed relationship.
Greer fondly described their lunch meeting that followed, where she expressed eagerness to get to know her father again. “I was ready to call him that day, like, ‘Let’s do this thing. I got a dad now, woohoo!’" she recalled.
Currently, Greer stated that she and Kelsey maintain a positive relationship. Although he supported her through college, she joked about not having a trust fund, saying, “I wish.”

Kelsey Grammer, who shares multiple children with different partners, has previously acknowledged the challenges of maintaining relationships with his older kids. In a May interview, he remarked on making an effort to reconnect with them. "I have neglected a couple of the kids in my life, especially the first two," he stated, emphasizing his commitment to being an active presence in their lives.
Recently, the actor welcomed his eighth child, a baby named Christopher. In a conversation with TMZ, he expressed joy about having a newborn at home, describing it as "absolutely wonderful." Kelsey reflected on the blessings of parenting, stating, “You forget what a blessing it is to have a small child in life.”
