Tyler Hubbard Shares His Journey to Reconnect with FGL Partner Brian Kelley: A Friendship in Progress
Tyler Hubbard Discusses Rebuilding Friendship with Brian Kelley
Tyler Hubbard has shared insights into his evolving relationship with Brian Kelley, his former partner in the country duo Florida Georgia Line. Speaking candidly, Hubbard indicated that while they are focusing on mending their friendship, there are currently no plans to reunite musically.
During a recent appearance on the Human School Podcast, Hubbard, 38, reflected on their friendship, which has been strained since the duo announced their split in August 2022 after 12 years together. He acknowledged the lack of communication in recent years but expressed hope for revitalizing their bond, noting they are planning to go on a hike next week.
“I hadn’t spoken to BK a lot in the last couple of years, but I have a desire for that friendship," Hubbard stated. "I miss the guy I was partners with for 10 years. I miss my old roommate, my best man at my wedding, and if nothing else, we should have a relationship."
Hubbard emphasized that the nature of their relationship does not need to mirror what it once was, nor does it have to equate to any professional endeavors under the Florida Georgia Line moniker. “We need to repair… and spend some time together face-to-face,” he explained. “I’m excited for that because enough time has gone by.”
While Hubbard recognizes the challenges of reconnecting, he remains optimistic. He expressed, “What I’m hungry for is… Let me get my friend back,” adding that he feels hopeful for this new chapter in their lives.
Despite the distance that has grown between them, he believes they should still share experiences. “We had so many amazing years of blessings, and doing the craziest things that our wildest dreams couldn’t have imagined," he said. “We should be doing life together in some capacity still.”
Hubbard confirmed that both he and Kelley are making efforts to cultivate their friendship, even as they navigate their current paths independently.
The separation of Florida Georgia Line followed a period of speculation regarding differing opinions between the duo, particularly after a brief politically charged exchange on social media in 2020; both Hubbard and Kelley have denied that these differences led to their breakup. Since their disbandment, both artists have pursued solo projects, signaling a new phase in their lives away from the duo that brought them significant success.
In May 2024, during a discussion on the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast, they elaborated on their split, with Kelley expressing a desire to explore solo work, while Hubbard was less enthusiastic about balancing both pursuits.
