Moreno Valley Toy Drive Needs Your Help to Keep Going
Church Faces Toy Shortage Ahead of Holiday Event
An Inland Empire church is appealing for donations after a promised delivery of toys for a children’s event was unexpectedly canceled. Unity in Christ Ministries was set to distribute gifts on Saturday but now finds itself facing a significant shortfall.
Billy Davis, the church’s pastor, revealed that a private donor had initially pledged hundreds of toys but later withdrew the commitment. "We already have 300 people signed up, but we only have 100 toys. What do we do?" Davis expressed his concern, highlighting the urgent need for additional support.
The annual toy drive has become a cherished tradition, uniting families from across the Inland Empire with music, games, food, and festive gifts. Last year, the church successfully served approximately 200 families, but this year, the demand has surged, with more families eager to participate.
In response to the crisis, several community members and organizations have stepped up to assist, quickly filling toy boxes to benefit children of all ages. Veronica McDaniel, a church member, noted the impact of the event on families in need, including those living in temporary accommodations. "Their faces are lit up, and that keeps us going – their faces and how grateful they are for what we do," she said.
The church is actively seeking additional toy donations and encourages contributions both online and in-person at their location on Alessandro Boulevard near Perris Boulevard.
