Zendaya Embraces Carrie Bradshaw Style in a Chic White 3D Floral Minidress
Zendaya made headlines at the 2026 Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards with her striking choice of attire—a vintage white minidress imbued with a rich fashion history. The dress, which evokes nostalgia, features an off-the-shoulder neckline, unique gathered ruching, and a thigh-high slit.
This iconic piece has roots extending back to an original design by Ohio-born designer Eugene Stutzman, who later worked under the name Eugene Alexander. Its notable history includes a memorable appearance on Whitney Houston during a 1986 promotional photoshoot, where the dress captured widespread attention and became a part of pop culture’s fashion narrative.
While audiences may recognize the dress as a nod to Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City: The Movie (2008), its story began long before its portrayal on screen. Patricia Field, the film’s costume designer, adapted the original design for Sarah Jessica Parker, simplifying the floral detailing to a single, oversized bloom—a signature of early 2000s fashion.
At the awards, Zendaya adorned the dress with oversized hibiscus appliqués detailed in gold leaf, enhancing its sculptural quality. Stylist Law Roach complemented the ensemble with classic Christian Louboutin So Kate pumps and a Cartier Love Bracelet, further elevating the look.
This appearance also marks a continuation of Zendaya’s foray into white bridal-inspired ensembles as she promotes her upcoming film, The Drama, alongside Robert Pattinson. Just days before the awards, she donned another striking white outfit in Paris, designed by Louis Vuitton’s Nicolas Ghesquière. Roach fueled speculation about the actress’s personal life by claiming that Zendaya and Tom Holland have already tied the knot, stating, “The wedding has already happened. You missed it!”
