Zara Larsson Clarifies Rumors About Replacing Camila Cabello in Fifth Harmony

In 2014, when Camila Cabello departed from Fifth Harmony, the group lost more than just a member. There was speculation that Zara Larsson could potentially fill that gap.
Now, over a decade later, Larsson has addressed this topic in a recent YouTube interview with self-professed Fifth Harmony fan Tomás Mier. When asked if she ever considered joining the group, she responded unequivocally, “Oh, no, I don’t do groups. I would never be in a group. No, sorry.”
Despite her stance, Larsson expressed support for the group, stating she will “always” be a Harmonizer and that she is “a big fan of girl groups.” However, she emphasized her preference for being a solo artist, noting, “I just couldn’t take not singing lead all the time.”
Larsson also remarked on the resurgence of girl groups, adding, “If I was [in one], I will be front center.”
Following Cabello’s exit from the group formed on X Factor, the remaining members—Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane Hansen, Ally Brooke Hernandez, and Normani Kordei—continued under the Fifth Harmony name. In a 2017 interview with Billboard, Hernandez stated, “The fans are our fifth member,” just a year before the group disbanded.
Larsson has her own historic connection to Fifth Harmony, having toured with them as an opening act on Cher Lloyd’s I Wish tour in 2014. Reflecting on that time, she said, “I actually loved to be on that tour. That’s memories for life. What a good time that was. What an era.”
Had she not embarked on her solo career, Larsson may not have achieved her milestone in 2026 with the remixed version of Pinkpantheress’ “Stateside,” which recently became her first-ever top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 7 on the chart dated March 14, 2026. This milestone builds on the popularity sparked by her 2024 hit “Symphony.”
