Zach Shields and Zach Cregger Team Up to Write the Prequel Screenplay for ‘Weapons’
Zach Cregger and Zach Shields to Pen Prequel to ‘Weapons’
Zach Cregger and Zach Shields are set to write the screenplay for a prequel to the acclaimed horror film Weapons, which has a current working title of Gladys. The project is being developed by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros.
Cregger, along with producers Roy Lee and Miri Yoon from Vertigo Entertainment, will bring the project to fruition. He is represented by CAA, Artists First, and agents Karl Austen and Michael Auerbach.
Weapons, which garnered over $270 million in global box office sales, features Amy Madigan in the role of Aunt Gladys, the primary antagonist. Madigan’s performance earned her significant acclaim, including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Zach Shields is no stranger to major film projects; he most recently contributed to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire under Warner Bros. and Legendary. His previous collaborations include Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Krampus, co-written with Michael Dougherty.
In the realm of television, Shields recently co-executive produced Alma Har’el’s Lady in the Lake for Apple, starring Natalie Portman. Additionally, he served as a consulting producer on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters for Apple. Earlier this year, his play Dad’s Leg, featuring actors Rain Spencer, Emily Althaus, and Ted Monte, was performed at Los Angeles’ Hudson Theatre.

Meanwhile, Cregger’s adaptation of the video game Resident Evil is scheduled for release on September 18, 2026.
