The artist, recognized for her reverb-heavy, ethereal sound, described her cover choice as simple yet significant.
“I chose this cover for a very simple reason: I just think it’s a cute song,” Wisp shared in the studio. “It’s easy, it’s fun, and I had it on a playlist for a long time, so I knew all the words already.”
Originally featured on Green Day’s *21st Century Breakdown*, the track has garnered a dedicated fanbase over the years due to its stripped-back emotional resonance. Wisp embraced that sentimentality, infusing classic shoegaze textures and ambient guitar effects into the melody, thereby transforming the punk trio’s heartfelt ballad into a dreamier and more atmospheric rendition.
She also noted that the song served as inspiration for her forthcoming work. “I was curating a bunch of songs for inspiration for the next album that I’m writing,” she explained. “And the Green Day song was one of those.”
Wisp, who frequently crafts playlists for both her and her audience, mentioned that ‘Last Night on Earth’ has influenced her personal moodboard for her upcoming project.
In addition to her cover, Wisp also showcased her original track ‘Black Swan’ during her appearance on ‘Like A Version.’
‘Like A Version’ has long been a platform for innovative reinterpretations, with artists often delivering bold takes on well-loved tracks. Wisp’s version of ‘Last Night on Earth’ aligns with this tradition, swapping the original’s polished rock sound for shimmering distortion and a surreal haze.
