Will Trent is Coming Back for Season 5 on ABC
ABC has confirmed the renewal of its popular police drama Will Trent for a fifth season.
Based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times bestselling book series, Will Trent follows Special Agent Will Trent, played by Ramón Rodríguez. Abandoned at birth, Trent navigated a challenging upbringing within Atlanta’s foster care system. Now, he brings his unique perspective to his work with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, where he boasts the highest clearance rate.
Alongside Rodríguez, the cast features Erika Christensen as Angie, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood, Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner, and Kevin Daniels as Detective Franklin Wilks. Notably, Trent’s dog, Betty, also plays a cherished role in the series.
Watch on Deadline
Season 4 of Will Trent has emerged as the show’s most-watched season thus far. It marks the first time since Scandal over ten years ago that an ABC series has seen growth across its first four seasons, while also being the first broadcast series to achieve this in nearly 14 years, according to Nielsen and the network.
The series currently airs new episodes from its fourth season on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m.
In addition to Will Trent, ABC has renewed several shows, including the hit comedy Abbott Elementary for a sixth season, Grey’s Anatomy for a twenty-third season, the Kaitlin Olson-led High Potential for a third season, and 9-1-1 for a tenth season, as well as its sister series 9-1-1: Nashville for a second season. Also renewed is The Rookie, starring Nathan Fillion. Meanwhile, series such as Tim Allen’s Shifting Gears, along with newer entries Scrubs and RJ Decker, await renewal decisions.
The series is produced by 20th Television, with executive producers including Liz Heldens, Daniel Thomsen, Karine Rosenthal, Karin Slaughter, Oly Obst, Jason Ensler, Ellen Marie Blum, and Ramón Rodríguez. Heldens, Thomsen, and Rosenthal also serve as showrunners.
