Key Points
- Princess Charlotte has not yet worn a tiara in public.
- Kate Middleton donned a tiara for the first time during her royal wedding, while some royal women have done so earlier.
- Charlotte’s potential tiara debut may depend on her future role as a working royal.
Princess Charlotte is expected to have access to the British royal family’s extensive jewelry collection. Speculation arises regarding when she will wear a tiara for the first time.
The 10-year-old princess is likely several years away from this debut, as tiaras have traditionally been worn by adult royal women in recent generations.
However, it is possible that Charlotte may don a tiara before her mother, Kate Middleton, who first wore one at the age of 29.
Kate Middleton made her tiara debut publicly in April 2011 during her marriage to Prince William, wearing the Cartier Halo Tiara, which was loaned from Queen Elizabeth.

Both Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana wore tiaras for the first time on their wedding days. Notably, two other royal family members sported tiaras before their marriages, creating a precedent for Charlotte, should she assume a working royal position in the future.

Notably, Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth’s sister, wore her first tiara at 18 during Queen Juliana of the Netherlands’ inauguration in 1948. Queen Elizabeth’s daughter, Princess Anne, debuted her tiara at 17 during the State Opening of Parliament in 1967.
Princess Anne’s tiara, the Cartier Halo Tiara, was famously worn again by Kate on her wedding day, highlighting its significance within the royal family.

Princess Margaret and Princess Anne’s earlier tiara wear was likely a reflection of their roles as working members of the royal family, a position that Princess Charlotte is set to assume in the future.
As the granddaughter of King Charles, daughter of heir Prince William, and younger sister of the next successor, Prince George, Charlotte is anticipated to eventually take on a royal role, complete with access to the family’s impressive jewelry collection.
