Welfare Check at Hermosa Beach Ends in Standoff and Unfortunate Finding of a Body
Man Detained Following Standoff at Hermosa Beach Residence Where Body Was Discovered
A man was taken into custody Saturday evening following a nearly seven-hour standoff with police at a beachfront residence in Hermosa Beach. This incident unfolded after officers found a deceased individual inside, believed to be the victim of a homicide.
The situation began around 12:30 p.m. when police responded to a welfare check requested by a landlord concerned about their tenant, an elderly individual, who had not been heard from in about a week.
Upon arrival, officers observed signs indicating a potential deceased person inside the residence. The landlord permitted them to enter, where they found another individual present.
Sgt. Keaton Dadigan from the Hermosa Beach Police Department reported that this individual claimed to be armed and quickly barricaded himself inside the home. In response, SWAT units from neighboring jurisdictions, including Hawthorne, Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, and Hermosa Beach, were called in to assist.
After extensive negotiations lasting until approximately 7:47 p.m., officers successfully detained the man. Police have indicated that charges are pending and will be determined based on the investigation’s findings.
Authorities confirmed that one person was found dead in the home, with officials classifying the death as a homicide. However, it remains unclear whether the deceased or the detained individual were residents of the property, and the nature of their relationship has not been disclosed.
The investigation will be assumed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau. The identity of the victim has yet to be revealed, and additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the death are still pending.
