Washington Secures Five Picks and Dominates Boise State in L.A. Bowl
Washington Dominates Boise State in L.A. Bowl Finale
In a defensive struggle that marked the conclusion of the L.A. Bowl’s brief history, Washington decisively defeated Boise State 38-10 at SoFi Stadium on Saturday. For the first quarter, both teams struggled offensively, each accumulating fewer than 60 yards and earning points solely through field goals.
The game took a turn during Washington’s second drive when quarterback Demond Williams Jr. connected with receiver Denzel Boston for a 78-yard touchdown—an explosive play that set the tone for the Huskies’ rout. From that point forward, Washington maintained control, limiting Boise State’s offense and adding to their lead.
Under the leadership of head coach Jedd Fisch and defensive coordinator Ryan Walters, the Huskies’ defense stifled the Broncos, yielding only three points until the final quarter. Washington successfully intercepted five passes throughout the game while Williams Jr. completed 15 of 24 passes for 214 yards and four touchdowns.
Boise State’s struggles against Power Five teams continued, marking their tenth consecutive loss. The Broncos’ last victory over a major conference opponent occurred in 2019 against Florida State. Throughout the game, they struggled to convert crucial plays, managing just four third-down conversions and two on fourth down.
In a final effort to score in the fourth quarter, Boise State’s Max Cutforth attempted a pass intended for Chase Penry in the end zone; however, the pass was intercepted by Washington’s Leroy Bryant. The Broncos finally found the end zone when Cutforth threw an eight-yard touchdown pass with just 1:18 remaining in the game, but by then, the outcome was already decided.
The L.A. Bowl is expected to end its run after the game, with its six-year contract concluding amid challenges in securing bowl spots.
