Warren G Celebrated as Long Beach Baseball Fans Choose ‘Regulators’ Nickname
Long Beach Baseball Team Honors Warren G with New Nickname
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The city of Long Beach is celebrating its rich hip-hop heritage as the new professional baseball team reveals its name—The Regulators. This move pays homage to local artist Warren G, whose music has helped shape the city’s cultural identity.
On a recent announcement, the Long Beach Baseball Club confirmed the team will officially be known as the Long Beach Coast. However, the nickname "the Regulators" was chosen by fans in tribute to Warren G’s iconic 1994 hit single "Regulate," which features Nate Dogg.
A spokesperson for the team indicated that this nickname will be incorporated into selected ballpark experiences, unique merchandise offerings, and various promotional activities.
Warren G, a native of Long Beach, expressed pride in the name, highlighting its significance to the city’s identity. "Long Beach has always set its own tone and had its own swagger," he remarked. "This baseball team, the Coast, represents the heart of the city — but the Regulators legacy will always be part of Long Beach culture. It’s respect for where we’ve been and excitement for where we’re going."
The team is part of the Pioneer Baseball League, an independent league in partnership with Major League Baseball, and operates across the West Coast.
Looking ahead, the Long Beach Coast will host two kickoff events before the season commences in June. The first is scheduled for Saturday, January 17, from noon to 5 p.m. during the city’s 38th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Celebration. The second event will take place on Saturday, January 31, from 4 to 7 p.m. at WatchMe! Sports Bar.
