Wagner Moura and Kristen Stewart Team Up in Panos Cosmatos’ New Vampire Film ‘Flesh Of The Gods’ as A24 Acquires U.S. Rights
Wagner Moura Partners with Kristen Stewart in Upcoming Vampire Thriller
Wagner Moura, recently nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in The Secret Agent, has secured a lead role alongside Kristen Stewart in the vampire thriller Flesh of the Gods. Directed by Panos Cosmatos, known for Mandy, the film will be distributed in the U.S. by A24.
Moura steps into the lead role after Oscar Isaac departed the project due to a scheduling conflict.
First announced during the summer of 2024 at the Cannes Market, Flesh of the Gods explores the lives of Raoul (Moura) and Alex (Stewart), a married couple living in glamorous 1980s Los Angeles. Every night, they descend from their luxury condo into a vibrant nightlife. Their encounters with the enigmatic Nameless and her extravagant circle draw them into a surreal world filled with hedonism, excitement, and violence.
The screenplay is penned by Andrew Kevin Walker, known for Se7en, based on a story by Cosmatos and Walker. Production is jointly managed by HyperObject Industries, represented by Adam McKay and Betsy Koch, in collaboration with Jonas Katzenstein and Maximilian Leo from Germany’s augenschein Filmproduktion, as well as Stewart and Maggie McLean for Nevermind Pictures. International sales and financing are being handled by XYZ Films in association with IPR.VC.
Moura made headlines with The Secret Agent, becoming the first Brazilian nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor and the first to win a Golden Globe for acting, as well as Cannes’ Best Actor award. Released by Neon in the U.S., the film, directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, features Moura as Marcelo, a technology expert ensnared in a political conspiracy during Brazil’s military dictatorship.
Rising to prominence over a decade ago with his portrayal of Pablo Escobar in Netflix’s Narcos, which earned him his first Golden Globe nomination, Moura has also recently appeared in Alex Garland’s A24 film Civil War and in Apple’s crime drama Dope Thief alongside Brian Tyree Henry. Upcoming projects include Louis Leterrier’s Netflix sci-fi horror film 11817, featuring Greta Lee, and the drama The Last Day, with Alicia Vikander. He is represented by WME and Johnson, Shapiro, Slewett & Kole.
