Apple Greenlights Sci-Fi Thriller "Liminal" Directed by Louis Leterrier
Apple has officially approved the development of Liminal, a sci-fi action-thriller directed by Louis Leterrier, known for his work on Fast X. The film will feature Academy Award nominee Vanessa Kirby, recognized for her role in Pieces of a Woman, alongside Emmy winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who stars in the upcoming series Wonder Man.
Liminal is inspired by the AWA graphic novel Telepaths, crafted by Eisner Award winner J. Michael Straczynski, Steve Epting, and Brian Reber. While specific plot details remain undisclosed, the original material is set in a world where a sudden electromagnetic disturbance grants telepathic abilities to a tenth of the population. In this narrative, Boston’s newly empowered police force faces a faction led by a wrongfully convicted individual, navigating a landscape where their powers render them vulnerable.
Produced by Apple Studios, the screenplay for Liminal comes from Justin Rhodes, known for Terminator: Dark Fate. Zach Studin will produce for AWA Studios, with Kevin Walsh also producing through his overall deal with Apple Studios. Executive producers include Ray Angelic and the creators of the graphic novel, Straczynski, Epting, and Reber, with Patrick McNamara and Juliet Kirby serving as co-producers.
Kirby has recently appeared in Ron Howard’s Eden and Benjamin Caron’s Netflix thriller Night Always Comes, which she also produced. Her upcoming projects include Ruins, an adaptation of Amy Taylor’s novel where she will both star and produce alongside Sebastian Stan. She is represented by CAA, Hamilton Hodell, Linden Entertainment, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
Abdul-Mateen II is enjoying significant acclaim this year, particularly for his role in Marvel’s Wonder Man. His series Man on Fire is set to premiere on Netflix on April 30. Additionally, he will co-star with Mark Wahlberg in the crime thriller By Any Means. He is represented by 1V1 Entertainment, WME, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
Director Louis Leterrier, an Emmy-winning filmmaker, has a diverse portfolio that includes Fast X, the Netflix series Lupin, and Now You See Me. Most recently, he directed 11817, a sci-fi horror film for Netflix. He is also attached to helm Fast Forever, the concluding installment in the Fast & Furious franchise, and is represented by A.J. Brandenstein and Robert Offer from Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern.
Rhodes is represented by Lit Entertainment Group, CAA, and Felker Toczek Suddleson. AWA is represented by Untitled.
