UFC 2026 White House Event Promises Excitement, TKO’s Mark Shapiro Talks Sponsorship Opportunities
The UFC is set to host an unprecedented event on the grounds of the White House next June, an occasion that could overshadow public concerns over the demolition of the East Wing. This insight was provided by Mark Shapiro, president and COO of TKO Group, during his appearance at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference on Tuesday.
Shapiro described the upcoming event as a significant opportunity for brand enhancement and increased engagement. “In terms of what this will do for brand, reach, engagement, notoriety, earned media, advertiser interest, this is an absolute monster,” he stated. While no tickets will be sold and the details of the fight card are still pending, Shapiro emphasized that the organization is thoroughly exploring all aspects of what he referred to as “the spectacle.”
The logistical preparations are also being considered. “We’re just trying to understand structurally how we can do it and set it up, and what we’ve got to build in, replace the soil and the sod, and what we can sell from an advertiser standpoint,” he added.
In recent months, TKO has made strides in securing sponsorship deals to elevate the UFC brand. Earlier this year, the organization finalized a multi-year agreement with Monster Energy, among other lucrative partnerships.
Scheduled for June 14, the event coincides with Flag Day and marks the 80th birthday of former President Donald Trump, who has built a strong rapport with the UFC and its CEO, Dana White. Notably, Trump has attended several UFC events this year. Shapiro remarked on the potential involvement of the former president, saying, “We don’t know yet what the president’s involvement will be, but judging from the draw day with World Cup, clearly he’s willing to get involved with those sports that he loves, that take place on U.S. soil.”
The MMA contest at the White House was confirmed earlier this year and is now set for June, shifting from an originally planned July Fourth date.
During his session at UBS, Shapiro also addressed the relationship with Paramount, which recently secured UFC broadcasting rights. He refrained from predicting the outcome of competitive negotiations with Warner Bros. Discovery but noted that the Paramount deal will ensure certain UFC events are aired on CBS. Most fight events will be available exclusively on Paramount+. This media arrangement raises the intriguing possibility of Trump appearing at the White House during a live UFC broadcast.
Although the commercialization of an event at “the people’s house” may raise eyebrows, it aligns with precedents set by Trump and Elon Musk this year, when new Tesla models were displayed at the White House. Additionally, past interactions, such as Trump and his daughter Ivanka promoting Goya products, have also sparked public backlash.
Shapiro expressed uncertainty about the future of UFC broadcasts, particularly in relation to the evolving landscape of streaming platforms. He suggested that if Paramount secures additional assets, it might lead to broadcasting opportunities on platforms like HBO and TNT, known for their sports programming history and audience engagement.
The UFC’s goal is to air one event per month on CBS, which Shapiro believes will significantly broaden its reach to more than 100 million households, presenting a promising avenue for growth.
