Two Lives Lost in Rollover Crash on the 405 in Westchester as Rain Returns to the Southland
Two Dead in Fiery Rollover Crash on 405 Freeway
Los Angeles — A fatal rollover crash occurred early Wednesday morning on the southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway in Westchester, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. This tragic incident coincided with the return of rain to Southern California after a dry spell of more than a month.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident took place around 2 a.m. near La Tijera Boulevard. Initially reported as a potential solo-vehicle rollover, emergency responders found a white sedan overturned and engulfed in flames upon arrival.
Fire crews worked to extinguish the fire while CHP implemented a full closure of the southbound freeway. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, though their ages and identities have not yet been released. The CHP is investigating whether the inclement weather contributed to the crash.
The crash highlights the risks associated with changing weather conditions, as other accidents have also been reported in the area amid the storm.
In a separate incident, emergency responders were called to a water rescue shortly after 1:30 a.m. in Agoura Hills. A man was trapped inside a Dodge Challenger that had become submerged in floodwaters on Triunfo Canyon Road. Crews from the Los Angeles County Fire Department successfully rescued the driver, who was evaluated at the scene.
Earlier that night, at approximately 11:15 p.m., another vehicle veered off the roadway from above the 405 Freeway near The Getty in Brentwood. The car fell about 75 feet, landing in a tree but inches from the southbound lanes of the freeway. Fortunately, all occupants were able to exit the vehicle without reported injuries.
