Trump Seems to Appreciate SNL UK’s Cold Open on Keir Starmer, Even After Criticizing POTUS for Sparking World Tensions
Donald Trump Reacts to Debut of Saturday Night Live UK
In a surprising turn of events, Donald Trump, a longstanding critic of the flagship NBC sketch comedy series, has expressed appreciation for Saturday Night Live UK following its premiere this past weekend.
On Sunday, the 45th and 47th president shared a clip of the show’s cold open on Truth Social. The skit featured Prime Minister Keir Starmer humorously depicted as anxious while attempting to contact Trump and assert himself.
In the scene, cast member George Fouracres, impersonating Starmer, voices his apprehension: “Golly! What if Donald shouts at me? What do I say, Lammy?” He then abruptly ends the call upon hearing Trump’s voice, exclaiming, “Oh sod that scary, scary, wonderful president! Why is he so difficult to talk to?”
While Trump posted the clip without a caption, it is noteworthy that the version he shared was edited, stopping just before Starmer asserted himself. The clip includes Starmer referencing a pop culture moment, stating, “Most importantly, remember the one where Ross and Rachel were on a break? I think perhaps that’s what we need.”
In a continuation of the humorous exchange, Starmer quips, “Not forever, just until you’ve got all this war out of your system. Listen, we want different things. I know how badly you want to start World War III, and that’s great. You should absolutely do that, but we can’t be a part of it. You can, however, use the naval bases whenever you want.”
Despite his apparent fondness for the new UK version, Trump has been vocally critical of the US counterpart, which often features James Austin Johnson impersonating him in various sketches.
