Troy Terry Scores Overtime Goal to Give Ducks a Win Over Sabres
Troy Terry Leads Ducks to Overtime Victory Against Sabres
In a thrilling showdown on Sunday night, Troy Terry sealed the win for the Anaheim Ducks with a breakaway goal just 1:29 into overtime, leading his team to a 6-5 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. This marked Terry’s second goal of the game, coming after Mikael Granlund had tied the score late in regulation.
The decisive moment occurred when Tage Thompson was unable to keep the puck in the Ducks’ zone, allowing Terry to capitalize on a 2-on-0 breakaway, where he found the net with a backhand shot. Granlund tied the game at 5 with only 1:44 left in the third period, scoring during a power play while goaltender Ville Husso was pulled for an extra attacker.
The Ducks showcased strong performances throughout the match, with Chris Kreider and Jackson LaCombe scoring power-play goals in the first period, alongside a strike from Beckett Sennecke. Husso made 24 saves, contributing to the Ducks’ current four-game point streak, which includes two consecutive wins.
Conversely, Alex Lyon’s 10-game road winning streak came to an end after he allowed six goals on 33 shots, including two goals from Sennecke and Terry on just four shots in the second period. This streak had tied for the third-longest in NHL history.
The Sabres had an impressive showing as well, with goals from Alex Tuch, Josh Doan, Jack Quinn, Owen Power, and Zach Benson. Despite the loss, they extended their franchise-record road points streak to 14 games and only suffered their second defeat in the last 14 outings.
Lyon’s last road defeat occurred on December 8, when the Sabres were at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a 2-9-2 record away from home. Since then, the team has won 20 of their last 24 games on the road, positioning themselves to potentially end the longest playoff drought in the NHL and compete for their first division title since the 2009-10 season.
Had Lyon secured the victory, it would have tied him with Evgeni Nabokov and Devan Dubnyk for the longest undefeated road streak in league history.
