Tron: Ares is Coming Soon to Disney+
Disney+ announced on Tuesday that the highly anticipated film Tron: Ares, starring Jared Leto, is set to premiere on the streaming platform on January 7, 2026.
This announcement follows the theatrical release of the latest installment in the Tron franchise, which opened on October 10, drawing $33.2 million at the domestic box office. To date, the film has grossed a total of $142.2 million worldwide.
Directed by Joachim Rønning, with a screenplay by Jesse Wigutow, Tron: Ares tells the story of a complex AI military program named Ares, portrayed by Leto, who is dispatched from the Grid into the real world on a perilous mission. This leads to a significant confrontation between AI entities and humanity. The cast also features Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and original Tron star Jeff Bridges.
The film’s original score and soundtrack have been crafted by the reunited band Nine Inch Nails, with members Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who previously secured Oscars for Best Original Score for Soul and The Social Network.
Disney+ has announced that at launch, Tron: Ares will be available in IMAX Enhanced, providing an expanded aspect ratio and DTS sound on certified televisions and audio-visual receivers.
Upon its release, Tron: Ares will join the existing library of the original 1982 film Tron and its 2010 sequel, Tron: Legacy, which are currently available on the streaming service.
