Man Killed by Semi-Truck in Van Nuys Parking Lot
LOS ANGELES – A tragic incident in Van Nuys has left a 55-year-old man dead after being struck by a semi-truck in a grocery store parking lot on Thursday. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).
The collision occurred around 2 p.m. when the truck, marked with "JONS Fresh Marketplace," was navigating through the parking lot. According to police, the driver was attempting a tight turn when he struck the man.
Sgt. Frank Bancalari of the LAPD Valley Traffic Division noted that the incident appears to be an accident. "No crime involved. The driver stayed. No DUI involved or anything like that," he stated.
Details surrounding the victim’s background remain unclear, although some community members indicated he may have been homeless. The LAPD, as of Thursday evening, had not verified his housing status.
In the wake of the tragedy, local residents gathered at the scene to pay their respects, expressing sorrow over the loss. Those who work near the grocery store described it as a "very sad" day and offered condolences to the victim’s family.
