Topanga Canyon Boulevard Set to Reopen Following Rain Closure
Topanga Canyon Boulevard to Reopen After Preemptive Closure
A stretch of 3.6 miles along Topanga Canyon Boulevard is set to reopen early Friday, following its closure due to anticipated rainstorms, according to Caltrans. The highway, also known as State Route 27, will be accessible by 5 a.m. after crews finish removing debris flows from the roadway.
The closure was initiated on Tuesday, December 30, to address safety concerns related to the forecasted weather. State Route 27 runs between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive.
Despite the reopening, the area remains an active work zone due to ongoing recovery efforts from the Palisades Fire and recent winter storms. Typically, this section of highway is closed to the public from midnight to 5 a.m. each day, and motorists are advised to proceed with caution, anticipating possible delays. Caltrans officials have noted that debris flows have continued even during the closure, and additional rainfall expected this weekend may necessitate further closures.
The reopened section will operate under specific restrictions. A 25 mph speed limit is enforced through the work zone, and parking, stopping, and pedestrian access are prohibited. Caltrans has warned that fines for violations in work zones may be doubled.
Drivers are encouraged to exercise extra caution, particularly on blind curves and in one-way sections, as they may encounter workers and slow-moving vehicles.
Detailed traffic conditions can be accessed through the Caltrans Quickmap.
