The Times Releases Weekly High School Baseball Rankings for the Southland
As the baseball season progresses, The Times has unveiled its latest top 25 high school baseball rankings for the Southland following the fifth week of competition.
Leading the pack is St. John Bosco with a perfect record of 7-0, showcasing an impressive five shutouts in their seven games. They held their position from last week. Following closely is Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, now at 10-0, benefiting from a standout week by Malayke Matsumoto, moving up from fourth place.
Corona, maintaining a record of 7-0, dropped to the third spot despite Anthony Murphy’s notable performance where he achieved a cycle and came close to repeating it. Orange Lutheran sits at fourth with a 3-1 record and plans to head to North Carolina for the National Invitational, down from third.
Norco retains its fifth position at 7-1, gearing up for a crucial three-game series against King. Harvard-Westlake (8-3) remains at sixth, though recent challenges were highlighted in their game against Bishop Alemany, which exposed some pitching issues.
Moving down the ranks, Huntington Beach (7-2-1) begins its Sunset League campaign with a strong 6-0 start and holds the eighth position. Gahr (5-4-1) faces a pivotal three-game series against La Mirada after slipping from seventh to ninth.
Other notable rankings include Sierra Canyon at tenth, where Brayden Goldstein is earning recognition as a top hitter, and Royal in eleventh, buoyed by Dustin Dunwoody’s impressive sixteen-strikeout outing against Simi Valley.
Aquinas remains undefeated at 6-0, marking an achievement with a sweep of Arrowhead Christian, while Santa Margarita (9-2) is buoyed by freshman Cooper Holland’s contributions following teammate Brody Schumaker’s recent injury.
Meanwhile, Bishop Alemany (8-3) anticipates the addition of Mikey Martinez, likely strengthening their team as they enter the rankings for the first time.
Completing the list, Oaks Christian (8-2) initiates its Marmonte League season against Newbury Park, and South Hills (10-1) looks forward to a significant series against San Dimas.
