Southland High School Baseball Rankings: Weekly Update
As the high school baseball season progresses, The Times has unveiled its latest rankings for the Southland, reflecting the performances through the third week of play.
Leading the pack is St. John Bosco (2-0), with Jack Champlin reclaiming his status as one of California’s premier closers. The team maintains its position from last week. Close behind is Corona (4-0), which is set to start league play against King, moving up from third in the previous rankings.
Orange Lutheran (2-1) sits in the third spot after a mixed trip to Las Vegas, dropping one position from last week. Meanwhile, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (4-0) continues its successful run, holding steady at fourth as it prepares for its Mission League opener against St. Francis.
Other notable mentions include Harvard-Westlake (5-1), which will face off against Sierra Canyon in a highly anticipated matchup, and Gahr (3-2), looking to bounce back after narrow losses to Harvard-Westlake and St. John Bosco. Norco (4-1) is set to challenge Gahr next, while Sierra Canyon (5-1) aims to test its young pitching against Harvard-Westlake.
The bottom half of the rankings includes teams like Huntington Beach (1-2-1), facing a key rivalry game against Edison, and Royal (5-1), which prepares to compete against Moorpark. Mater Dei (4-1) is also highlighted for its offensive contributions from Ezekiel Lara, while El Dorado (5-2) showcases Xavi Cadena’s impressive hitting.
Aquinas (2-0) is gaining recognition with a strong performance from junior Dorian Valencia. Meanwhile, Oaks Christian (6-1) recently saw its six-game win streak end against Aquinas. South Hills (6-0) celebrated its 500th victory under coach Darren Murphy as it maintains an undefeated record.
