Tom Ellis and Nick Gehlfuss Return for Season 2 of ‘CIA’ on CBS
CBS has officially renewed its freshman series CIA for a second season. The drama, which airs Mondays at 10 p.m., stars Tom Ellis and Nick Gehlfuss and is also available for streaming on Paramount+.
In CIA, Gehlfuss portrays by-the-book FBI Special Agent Bill Goodman, who is assigned to a covert CIA/FBI task force. Working alongside the enigmatic and rogue CIA Agent Colin Glass, played by Ellis, Goodman navigates the complexities of undercover operations in New York as they confront international plots, terrorist groups, and geopolitical threats. Throughout the series, Goodman learns the intricacies of this shadowy world, where their efforts remain unseen yet vital for national security.
Joining the main cast are Natalee Linez and Necar Zadegan.
The series premiered on February 23, attracting 8.4 million multiplatform viewers within its first week, according to Nielsen. CBS reported that viewership in its time slot improved by 39% compared to the previous fall, allowing it to outperform ABC’s The Rookie and NBC’s The Voice during its first three episodes.
“We owe much of this world-building success to our incredible collaborators, including FBI producer Amanda Slater and CIA producer Paul Cabbad, as well as the dedicated teams behind them,” stated executive producer Mike Weiss last month.
Central to CIA is the dynamic relationship between Goodman and Glass. The actors have noted that their real-life friendship facilitates a seamless on-screen chemistry. The series highlights moments of growth and influence, showcasing how the unassuming Goodman gradually adopts traits from the more adventurous Glass.
The executive production team includes Dick Wolf, Mike Weiss, Ken Girotti, Paul Cabbad, Nicole Perlman, David Chasteen, Anastasia Puglisi, and Peter Jankowski. The series is produced by Universal Television, part of Universal Studio Group, in collaboration with Wolf Entertainment and CBS Studios.
