Timothée Chalamet’s absence from this year’s Met Gala has been a topic of discussion, particularly as many anticipated he would attend alongside his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner. Chalamet elaborated on his decision in a recent episode of the podcast 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony.
“I was too ‘locked in’ supporting the New York Knicks this spring to attend fashion’s biggest night,” the 29-year-old actor explained. He described the postseason excitement, stating, “That Knicks run last year was the most fun period of my life. Those four months, I’m not even kidding. Just the Garden being electric.” On the night of the Met Gala, he shared a screenshot on social media of himself watching the Knicks match against the Boston Celtics.

Meanwhile, Kylie Jenner made quite an impression at the gala, donning a custom, waist-cinching Ferragamo gown that adhered to the event’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” The cosmetics mogul, 28, was accompanied by her sisters, Kendall Jenner and Kim Kardashian. Despite their separate appearances, Jenner has previously shown support for Chalamet’s basketball passion, attending a Knicks game with him at Madison Square Garden on May 12.
Fans of the couple, who have been linked since 2023, had hoped for a joint appearance at the Met Gala, especially after they were seen together throughout awards season, including a notable moment at the Oscars. Their red carpet debut ultimately came just days later, at the 70th David Di Donatello Awards on May 7, where they presented coordinated styles.

On December 8, Chalamet and Jenner captured attention once again at the premiere of Marty Supreme in Los Angeles. They showcased their style by wearing matching orange Chrome Hearts ensembles, with Chalamet sporting a leather suit and creatively accessorizing with a ping-pong paddle bag, while Jenner wore a figure-hugging dress.
Support for their relationship continues, particularly from Jenner’s family. Notably, Kris Jenner embraced the excitement surrounding Chalamet’s film, demonstrating her approval through themed merchandise posts on social media.
