Tickets Now Available for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics
Global Ticket Sales for LA28 Olympics Now Open
As of April 9, registered Olympic fans worldwide can now attempt to secure tickets for the upcoming LA28 Olympic Games. This follows a week-long "ticket drop" exclusively for residents of Southern California and Oklahoma City, marking the official launch of global ticket sales on Thursday.
Referred to as "Drop 1," this initial ticket sale will be available until April 19.
How the Ticketing Process Works
Registered fans selected through the LA28 Draw are urged to log in during their assigned time slots to purchase tickets for Olympic events, including the highly anticipated Opening and Closing Ceremonies, subject to availability. Notification emails will be sent 24 hours and 3 hours prior to the time slots, with links to the ticketing platform.
LA28 will offer tickets across all sports, with over 40 venues in Los Angeles hosting 36 sports for the 2028 Olympics. Once a ticket is added to the cart, fans have a 30-minute window to complete their purchase. Each fan can buy up to 12 tickets for Olympic events, which includes a maximum of four tickets for both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, as well as up to 12 soccer tournament tickets that do not count toward this limit. Those who don’t utilize their ticket maximum or miss their purchase window will automatically be entered into future draws.
Ticket Pricing Insights
LA28 has announced that more than 1 million tickets for the 2028 Summer Olympics will be available, starting at $28. However, during the local drop that began on April 2, many Southern California residents reported that these low-cost tickets were unavailable.
Reynold Hoover, CEO of LA28, stated in a press release, "hundreds of thousands of $28 tickets" were sold to locals during the presale, calling them "the lowest priced Olympic tickets in modern history." The organization is committed to providing a variety of ticket options. While ticket prices vary by sport, they indicated that nearly 50 percent of all Olympic tickets would be priced under $200. Additionally, more than three-quarters of all tickets—finals included—are expected to cost less than $400, with only about 5% of tickets priced above $1,000.
LA28 reiterated that, as a privately funded operation, the over $7 billion event will be sustained through ticket sales, hospitality, and sponsorships. "Getting the revenue mix right will mean delivering something unprecedented: a Games that generates a lasting financial legacy for Los Angeles," the organizers remarked.
Future Ticketing Opportunities
More than 5 million individuals signed up for the LA28 ticket draw, hoping to secure coveted purchasing time slots. Although a specific date has not been announced, LA28 confirmed that the next ticket drop will occur later this year. Fans who haven’t registered will have further opportunities to do so in the coming months.
Additionally, registered fans will have access to tickets for the Paralympic Games through a separate ticket draw scheduled for 2027. Recently, LA28 also disclosed plans for a verified multi-platform ticket resale program launching in 2027, which will include major platforms like Ticketmaster and Sports Illustrated Tickets.
Enthusiastic Local Response
LA28 described the reaction to the initial ticket drop in Southern California and Oklahoma City as "unprecedented." The organization noted that in its first week, ticket sales greatly surpassed those of any previous Olympic Games, with all tickets going to local residents.
"We’re thrilled by the level of interest and enthusiasm in tickets to the Games, and we’re ready to welcome millions of others to Los Angeles in 2028," Hoover said.
Save the Date
The LA28 Olympic Games will take place from July 14 to July 30, 2028. This will mark Los Angeles as the only city to host the Olympic Games three times, having previously held them in 1932 and 1984. Officials anticipate around 15,000 athletes will compete, with UCLA serving as the Athlete Village during the events. Los Angeles will also host its first-ever Paralympic Games from August 15 to August 27, 2028.
