Three Men Sentenced for 7-Eleven Robbery Spree in Los Angeles County
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. – Three men have been sentenced to 13 years each in state prison for a series of robberies that targeted 28 7-Eleven stores throughout Los Angeles County.
From February to April 2024, the group executed 33 separate robberies, stealing over $200,000 in lottery tickets and various merchandise while frequently threatening or assaulting employees. The defendants—Darrick Johnson, Taivyon Spells, and James Guillermo Guyton—pled no contest to multiple felony charges, according to the district attorney’s office.
During the robberies, the suspects often jumped behind cashier counters to seize items directly. Investigators were eventually able to link the crimes together by tracking the unique serial numbers on stolen California lottery tickets, which the defendants were captured redeeming on surveillance footage at various independent stores.
Johnson was sentenced on March 24 after pleading no contest to 11 felony counts of second-degree robbery. Spells and Guyton received their sentences on February 24; Guyton faced additional charges, including grand theft and possession of ammunition by a felon.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman addressed the broader implications of these crimes, noting the impact on local communities. "These robberies were not just from stores, but from people and families and the workers who show up every day to serve their customers," he stated. Hochman issued a stern warning to potential offenders: "Please know that you will be arrested, prosecuted and end up not with a lottery ticket but a one-way ticket to prison."
Authorities continue to search for a fourth co-defendant, Jose Guzman Ferreyra, who remains at large under an outstanding warrant. As part of ongoing efforts to deter future retail theft, the District Attorney’s Office is also distributing warning decals to 7-Eleven locations and other local businesses.
