This Week’s Style Highlight: Why Jennifer Lawrence’s Earlobes Are the Current Luxe Trend
EDITOR’S NOTE: Featuring the good, the bad, and the ugly, ‘Look of the Week’ is a regular series dedicated to unpacking the most talked-about outfit of the last seven days.
On Sunday, actress Jennifer Lawrence made a striking appearance at the Governors Awards in Los Angeles, donning a white silk dress by Jonathan Anderson for Dior. The gown, characterized by its off-the-shoulder design and a cascading leg split, showcased the Hollywood star’s elegance and was part of her ongoing partnership with the luxury brand, of which she has been an ambassador since 2012.
Many celebrities carry ambassadorships with high-profile brands, often required to wear their designs at red carpet events. For instance, Margaret Qualley has frequently donned Chanel since becoming an ambassador in 2022, while Emma Stone, a longtime representative of Louis Vuitton, has nearly exclusively worn pieces from the French luxury house since 2017.
The Joel Arthur Rosenthal earrings will go on sale next month, and are estimated to cost between $300,000 and $500,000.

However, Lawrence’s recent appearance was not limited to her Dior ensemble. She also sported a pair of 1987 diamond clips resembling glittering tree branches, designed by American jeweler Joel Arthur Rosenthal. These earrings are valued between $300,000 and $500,000 and are set to be auctioned next month at Sotheby’s in New York, where the price will be determined through bidding. Other items in the auction include a 1930s ruby and diamond bracelet from Cartier and a late 19th-century Boucheron necklace, valued between $1 million and $2 million.
This is not the first instance of Lawrence showcasing auction pieces. Earlier this month, Sotheby’s provided her with an 18-karat gold, platinum, and enamel necklace by David Webb worth between $25,000 and $35,000, which she wore to the New York premiere of her film “Die My Love.”

Sotheby’s has previously lent jewels to celebrities such as Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Rihanna for the Met Gala, with Chopra’s diamond selling for CHF 22 million (over $27 million) shortly after her appearance. Lawrence, meanwhile, is ensuring that soon-to-be-auctioned pieces gain significant visibility ahead of their sales.
The auction house’s strategy to engage in fashion marketing may counteract a slump in the high-end art market. According to 2025 data from ArtTactic, a research firm focused on the art market, auction sales at Sotheby’s, Christie’s, and Phillips have declined for three consecutive years due to inflation and rising geopolitical tensions, leading to increased caution among investors.
In a dynamic move for a 281-year-old institution, Sotheby’s is utilizing celebrity influence to attract new audiences. Jewelry worn by high-profile figures has historically sparked interest and fueled sales. For example, singer Shirley Bassey’s collection fetched a world-record €2.2 million (approximately $2.5 million) at auction. Whether Sotheby’s can replicate such success by showcasing lesser-known auction items through A-list actors remains to be seen, but the upcoming auction will reveal if celebrity endorsements have impacted bidding outcomes.
Correction: A previous version of this story misstated that the diamond Priyanka Chopra Jonas wore was not for sale and misspelled her name. The story has been updated with the sale price.
