The Voice is Now a Two-Hour Show for Season 29, While Brilliant Minds Moves to Late Spring or Summer
NBC’s "The Voice" Boosts Profile in Season 29 with Expanded Time Slot
Season 29 of NBC’s popular singing competition, The Voice: Battle Of Champions, is set for an expanded two-hour time slot, running from 9 PM to 11 PM every Monday beginning February 23. The network announced that the current Monday program, Brilliant Minds, has been pulled and will have its remaining six episodes aired later this season or during the summer.
The upcoming season marks the return of judges Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Adam Levine, reuniting for the first time since Season 16. NBC has hinted that this season will feature an updated format with faster-paced competitive elements, taking cues from major NBC Sports events such as Super Bowl LX and the upcoming Milan Cortina Olympic Winter Games.
The new format introduces four rounds where coaches will engage in a "Triple Turn Competition," aiming for the most three-chair turns. The coach who secures the highest number will gain a special advantage in subsequent rounds, earning a "Super Steal" for the battle rounds that trumps other coaches’ steal attempts, ensuring a win.
In a twist for the knockouts, each coach will revive two fan-favorite artists from previous seasons for an “In-Season All-Star Competition.” The coach with the most sing-off victories will automatically secure a second finalist for the season finale, with the outcome determined by original coach CeeLo Green.
Semifinal week will feature a Top 9 structure, culminating in a Top 4 finale, which for the first time will include a new voting block of super fans and past Voice contestants. Each coach will enter with 10 artists on their teams.
In Season 28, which featured coaches Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan, and Reba McEntire, the series attracted over 30 million viewers across platforms, with Aiden Ross winning the season in December.
The Voice is produced by MGM Television, Warner Horizon Unscripted Television, and ITV Studios The Voice USA, Inc., created by John de Mol, who serves as an executive producer alongside Mark Burnett and several others.
