The Fray Concludes 20th Anniversary Tour in Manila
Earlier this month, The Fray wrapped up its How to Save a Life: The 20th Anniversary Tour at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Manila, Philippines. During the performance, lead vocalist Joe King dedicated the band’s 2005 hit “Over My Head (Cable Car)” to a fan who had been asked by security to remain seated.
"I’m sorry that you had to sit down. But if you want, you can stand up," King said, addressing the audience.
The moment resonated with many, as King acknowledged the emotional connection some fans had with the music. "Manila, how we feeling? There’s been an incredible human being back here vibin’ to our music that has been standing up, and you’ve just been free and expressing your emotions," he stated.

King went on to encourage all fans to express themselves freely during the show. "You can feel however you want to feel, and you can sing it however you want to sing it, ‘cause that’s what music does," he explained. "It’s free to be however you want to be. It’s not contained, and you don’t have to sit down."
He empathized with the fan, stating, “I’ve been the only one standing up. I’ve been the only one feeling like I’m left out, like I’m the outsider. That’s what this song is about… We’re all connected tonight, and we’re grateful to be back in the Philippines singing this song 20 years later.”
The tour celebrated the legacy of The Fray’s 2005 album How to Save a Life, which features popular tracks such as the title song, “Over My Head (Cable Car)”, and “Look After You.”
In a previous interview, King reflected on how the success of “Over My Head (Cable Car)” transformed the band’s career trajectory. "That really opened up so many doors for us. It changed our lives," he noted, emphasizing the significance of the song in securing their record deal and expanding their fan base beyond Colorado.
As the band progresses, lead guitarist Dave Welsh and drummer Ben Wysocki, who remains with the group following the departure of original lead singer Isaac Slade in 2022, hinted at exciting developments ahead. "Hell yeah, we’re planning on releasing an album," Wysocki announced, revealing plans for their fifth album, expected to be released in early 2026.
