The Cast of ‘Stranger Things’ Shares Their Reactions to Season 5 Surprises in Table Read Video
SPOILER ALERT: This article contains details about Season 5 of Stranger Things.
The cast of “Stranger Things” can finally exhale as the final season unveils its first major twist. A behind-the-scenes video released Thursday on the series’ official YouTube channel reveals the Duffer Brothers sharing this shocking conclusion with the cast during a table read for episode “Chapter 4: Sorcerer.”
In the climactic moments of Season 5, Volume 1, chaos ensues as Demogorgons wreak havoc on a military base where Will (Noah Schnapp) and his friends are attempting to escape. Meanwhile, Eleven is occupied in the Upside Down. Just when hope seems lost, the Demogorgons freeze midair and begin to disintegrate, indicating that Will is telekinetically controlling them.
“I think people mistake fear for weakness,” Schnapp remarked. “Will has had a lot of fear through the years, because of what he’s had to endure, but that doesn’t mean he’s weak. He’s pushed through that and come out stronger, and he does it scared every time. He always comes back, and he never crumbles.”
Co-creator Matt Duffer emphasized Will’s pivotal role, stating, “When we first started talking about Season 5, we started talking about Will. He was a little bit more out of the picture in Season 4, but he’s a central character. He’s the character who kicked it all off, and a lot of this season was about going full circle and going back to the beginning.”
Duffer elaborated on the character’s journey, saying, “This was about Will’s journey in terms of finding out really who he was, and coming to terms with that. So we liked the idea of tying that into some of the more supernatural elements, that in order to become his most powerful self, he had to also really come to terms with who he is.”
With the first four episodes of “Stranger Things,” Season 5 now available for streaming on Netflix, fans can anticipate the next three episodes premiering on Christmas, followed by the series finale on New Year’s Eve.
