The BBC Confirms Renewed Seasons of ‘The Traitors’ and ‘The Celebrity Traitors’ Through 2030
The BBC has secured the future of The Traitors, committing to the hit show for an additional three years, ensuring its presence on British television until at least 2030.
The announcement was made by Tim Davie, the outgoing director-general of the BBC, during a farewell address at The Royal Television Society on Thursday morning.
Notable attendees included Stephen Lambert, the show’s producer, along with Jane Turton, CEO of All3Media, which recently merged with Banijay.
“In the UK, The Traitors has become a genuine television phenomenon, and we’re thrilled to continue the journey with the BBC,” said Stephen Lambert, CEO of Studio Lambert.
The BBC’s new agreement will kick off with Season 5 early next year, alongside plans for three more seasons, extending the show’s run to at least Season 8.
The Celebrity Traitors will also continue, with its second season set to debut later this year, followed by three additional seasons slated through late 2029.
Three-year contracts are typically reserved for major shows in British entertainment, with ITV similarly committing to programs like Britain’s Got Talent.
The Celebrity Traitors was the highest-rated show in the UK last year, drawing an average viewership of nearly 15 million. Its finale reached 15.4 million viewers, marking it as the top-performing entertainment episode in Britain in nearly a decade, according to BBC figures.
Kalpna Patel-Knight, head of entertainment commissioning for the BBC, oversaw the agreement for The Traitors. The executive producers at Studio Lambert Scotland include Mike Cotton, Sarah Fay, Lewis Thurlow, and Darrell Olsen, while commissioning editors Neil McCallum and Michael Jochnowitz represent the BBC.
Originally created in the Netherlands by IDTV, an All3Media company, the format was further developed with the RTL Creative Unit. All3Media International manages format and tape sales for The Traitors worldwide.
