Teyana Taylor Balances Culinary School and Career Success at Golden Globes
Teyana Taylor made headlines at the 83rd Annual Golden Globes, held on January 11, 2026, at The Beverly Hilton, where she won the award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in One Battle After Another. Balancing her thriving career and her studies in culinary arts, Taylor shared her journey with reporters on the red carpet.
The 35-year-old singer and actress detailed her recent experience of requesting an extension on her schoolwork to attend the prestigious event. “I do be scared when I be like, ‘Oh my God, oh my God. My deadline is on Tuesday,’” she admitted. Despite her nerves, she expressed her dedication to her education, stating, “But I spoke to my chef yesterday, and he’s giving me an extension so I can turn my assignment in on Thursday.”
Taylor, who studies at the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts, emphasized the support she receives from her school. "Shoutout Escoffier," she remarked, praising the institution for accommodating her busy schedule. “They’ve been very supportive of me,” she added.
In her acceptance speech, Taylor expressed gratitude to her family, friends, and One Battle’s director, Paul Thomas Anderson. “To Paul ‘Let ‘Em Cook’ Thomas Anderson, thank you for your vision, your trust and your brilliance,” she said, highlighting the importance of community in her success.
As part of her emotional address, Taylor addressed young girls of color, delivering a powerful message about self-worth: “Our softness is not a liability. Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.”
Taylor, who is also a mother to two daughters, Junie and Rue, announced her enrollment in culinary school last summer. In a heartwarming video shared on social media, she showcased her love for cooking while sporting a chef’s hat and apron. Reflecting on her journey, she said, “Cooking and baking have always been more than just hobbies for me; they’ve been my passion, my peace, my therapy.”
As Taylor continues to navigate the worlds of entertainment and education, she exemplifies the potential of juggling multiple ambitions while inspiring others along the way.
