Global Citizen is expanding its musical reach with its first-ever event in Japan, titled Global Citizen Live: Tokyo. This announcement was exclusively revealed by Billboard on Monday, April 6.
Headlining the event will be the nine-member Japanese boy band &TEAM, marking their significance as the first Japanese group signed to the Korean record label HYBE. Since their debut in late 2022 with First Howling: Me, &TEAM has achieved notable success, including topping the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart and participating in a Grammy Museum exhibit dedicated to HYBE. They also clinched an MTV Video Music Award in Japan.
Other performers include Ai, a Japanese-American singer, songwriter, and rapper who was the first woman signed to Def Jam Japan, and Yuki Chiba, the first Japanese artist to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards. Ai has collaborated with prominent artists such as Snoop Dogg, The Jacksons, and Chaka Khan, and now serves as a Global Citizen Cultural Champion. Meanwhile, Chiba, a singer, rapper, and producer, is known for collaborations with Megan Thee Stallion, Feid, and Big Sean. Radio personality Chris Peppler will host the event, with additional acts expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Since its inception in 2008, Global Citizen has mobilized nearly $50 billion to support movements worldwide. The organization amplifies its mission through campaigns and events in the entertainment sector, notably its live music gatherings. Past concerts have featured some of the biggest names in the industry, including Beyoncé, BTS, Ed Sheeran, Mariah Carey, Billie Eilish, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Global Citizen Live: Tokyo is scheduled for June 18 at the Tokyo International Forum. Leading up to the event, fans can earn points toward rewards, including free tickets, by downloading the Global Citizen app and engaging with issues that the organization champions, such as global health and climate change. Tickets are currently available for purchase through eplus and LAWSON TICKET. Proceeds from ticket sales will contribute to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, aimed at improving education access for at least 100,000 children worldwide in advance of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
