Teair Tart Signs Three-Year Extension with Chargers
Defensive lineman Teair Tart has officially re-signed with the Los Angeles Chargers, securing a three-year contract extension. The announcement came on Monday night, highlighting Tart’s pivotal role since joining the team in August 2024 after being released by the Miami Dolphins.
Tart quickly established himself as a key contributor to the Chargers’ defense, starting all 18 games in the past season at the center of the defensive line. Over his two seasons with the Chargers, he amassed 61 tackles, nine tackles for loss, one sack, and an interception. His performance in run defense has been particularly notable, filling a crucial gap following Poona Ford’s departure to the Rams last year.
Tart’s professional journey began as an undrafted free agent with the Tennessee Titans in 2020, and he also had a brief stint with the Houston Texans before joining the Chargers.
As the Chargers look towards the next season, they anticipate introducing new defensive strategies, particularly following the recent hiring of Jesse Minter as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. Minter previously served as defensive coordinator under head coach Jim Harbaugh, helping propel the Chargers’ defense into the top five in scoring, total defense, and passing defense during his tenure.
In Harbaugh’s first two seasons with the team, the Chargers finished with an 11-6 record but were eliminated in the wild-card round of the playoffs. On the same day as Tart’s signing, Harbaugh appointed former Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel as the new offensive coordinator, further shaping the team’s future.
