Taylor Swift Rocks a Chic Short Brunette Look with Nostalgic ’90s Denim Cutoffs
Taylor Swift Unveils New Look in "Opalite" Music Video
In a striking change from her signature blonde locks, Taylor Swift has debuted a chic wavy brunette lob accompanied by curtain bangs in her latest music video for "Opalite." The release showcases her versatility, with a refreshing new hairstyle that departs from her usual long and blunt bangs.
The music video, released on February 6, draws inspiration from Swift’s recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show and features a cast of notable guests, including Greta Lee, Lewis Capaldi, Domhnall Gleeson, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Cillian Murphy. In the narrative, Swift portrays a loner from the ’90s whose affection for a rock evolves into a connection with Gleeson’s character, who finds himself enamored with a cactus, all thanks to a magical element known as "opalite."
The video is filled with nostalgic ’90s references, from scrunchies to sparkly tracksuits and classic mall dates. At one point, Swift is seen wearing a pale pink ribbed tank top paired with short denim cutoff shorts, highlighting the iconic fashion of that era.
Swift reflected on the creative process, noting that the initial inspiration for the music video struck her during her promotional activities for The Life of a Showgirl. “My favorite part about writing is that first spark of an idea. It can happen at any time, for any reason,” she shared in an Instagram caption.
She expressed gratitude for her fellow guests from The Graham Norton Show, highlighting the collaborative spirit of the project. “To my delight, everyone from the show made the effort to time travel back to the ’90s with us,” she stated. Swift reminisced about how a light-hearted joke from Gleeson during the broadcast sparked her idea for the video.
The music video emphasizes not just fashion and humor, but also the joy of storytelling and character creation. "I had more fun than I ever imagined—made new friends, metaphors, and fashion choices," Swift concluded.
While well-known for her trademark blonde hair, this isn’t the first time Swift has opted for a darker hue in her music videos. She has previously sported brunette looks in "You Belong With Me" and "Wildest Dreams," showcasing her ability to adapt her style as part of her artistic expression.
