Tara Hernandez’s Historical Comedy ‘Regency’ Gets a Green Light for a Pilot at CBS
CBS is set to explore 19th Century England with its latest comedy project, Regency. The network has officially ordered a pilot for the series, which is being developed by Tara Hernandez and Warner Bros. Television. This multi-camera comedic endeavor is anticipated to be part of the 2026/27 broadcast season lineup.
The announcement marks another addition to the growing portfolio of comedy pilots developed under the leadership of Amy Reisenbach. Recently, the network also greenlit the single-camera fantasy comedy Eternally Yours, created by Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, known for their work on Ghosts.
Regency offers a historical twist on the traditional family sitcom, focusing on the lives of the upper-middle-class Tillbrook family as they navigate the complexities of life, love, and scandal in 19th Century England.
Hernandez will serve as both writer and executive producer for the series. She has a strong track record with CBS and Warner Bros. Television, having previously held a role as co-executive producer on hit shows such as The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon. Additionally, she created the sci-fi comedy-drama Mrs. Davis, which aired for one season on Peacock and starred Betty Gilpin.
Hernandez is also developing a live-action adaptation of Captain Planet and the Planeteers for Netflix. This project, which is currently in development, is based on the beloved animated series and is produced by Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions, Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way, and Warner Bros. Television.
