In a recent interview, actress Sydney Sweeney publicly dismissed ongoing speculation regarding cosmetic surgery. "Let’s debunk them all. I mean, I have never gotten work done," the 28-year-old star stated during a conversation with her The Housemaid co-star Amanda Seyfried for Allure. Sweeney added, “I am so scared of needles, you have no idea.”
Seyfried acknowledged the effectiveness of cosmetic procedures as people age, but Sweeney reaffirmed her apprehensions about needles. She expressed frustration with comparisons made between her past and current appearance, particularly on social media. “You cannot compare a photo of me from when I was 12 to a photo of me at 26 with professional makeup and lighting. Of course I’m going to look different,” she said. “Everybody on social media’s insane.”
Sweeney playfully promised Seyfried that she would notify her if she ever decided to pursue cosmetic enhancements. Seyfried responded, “You gotta call me, and I’ll give you a little bit of Ativan, and you’ll be so excited. But you don’t need it yet.” Sweeney, however, quickly countered, “No. Also, if I did, you guys, my face would be even.”
Throughout the exchange, Seyfried appeared puzzled at the suggestion of unevenness in Sweeney’s features. Sweeney clarified that a childhood accident while wakeboarding had led to her eyelids being slightly different due to 19 stitches. “I still don’t see it, but there’s an art to it,” Seyfried explained, emphasizing that cosmetic procedures must be approached thoughtfully.
Sweeney has been candid about her body image and self-acceptance over the years. In September 2023, she shared with Women’s Health, “I look up to the older version of myself. When I was 10, I looked up to the 25-year-old version of myself, and now I look up to my 50-year-old version. I hope I make the decisions she would be proud of.”
The actress also discussed the challenges of adapting to her body for professional roles, revealing that she gained over 30 pounds for her portrayal of Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic. Reflecting on her experience, Sweeney stated, “I didn’t fit in any of my clothes… I was wearing a size 27 instead of my usual size 23. It was crazy!”
