Stolen Dog Joyfully Reunited with Owner After Nearly 4 Years
Long-Lost Boston Terrier Reunites with Owner After Nearly Four Years
Baeya, a Boston Terrier, has been reunited with her owner, Shelton, after a long and arduous search that began when she was stolen from his front porch in July 2022. Just one day before a potential adopter was set to take her home, Shelton learned that his beloved dog was in the care of Wags and Walks, an animal rescue organization.
After Baeya’s abduction, Shelton took extensive measures to locate her. He distributed flyers throughout his neighborhood and even launched a business featuring her likeness in hopes that someone might recognize her.
"I left from my porch and went to my car for just a couple of minutes. When I returned, she was gone," Shelton recalled. He reached out to friends and family, asking them to notify him if they spotted Baeya.
Despite numerous tips that led to dead ends, Shelton remained hopeful. "Usually, people would call to say they thought they saw my dog, but it wasn’t her," he explained.
In March 2026, Shelton’s fortunes changed when a friend spotted an Instagram post from Wags and Walks featuring a dog that resembled Baeya. The moment he learned the news was overwhelming. "I was crying," he said, describing the emotional reunion that took place on Monday.
While the details of Baeya’s life during those nearly four years remain unclear, Wags and Walks confirmed that she was rescued from a shelter the previous week after being found as a stray. "The reunion was so special," said Erica from Wags and Walks. "Seeing Shelton and Baeya together, with instant tears, was a first for us."
Fate played a significant role in this reunion. A potential adopter planned to meet Baeya, known as Kit at the shelter, just a day prior but canceled the appointment. "If she had gotten adopted yesterday and they didn’t cancel, they might not have posted her picture on Instagram today," Erica noted.
Grateful for the support he received throughout his search, Shelton expressed his appreciation: "Thank you to everyone who attempted to contact me when they thought they found my dog, and to those who took care of her while she was lost."
As he and Baeya begin to rebuild their life together, Shelton mentioned, "She’s like the first love of my life." He is now focused on helping her adjust back to living in his home.
