Stevie Nicks, the iconic singer-songwriter, has embraced the healing power of music during her recovery from a shoulder fracture. After stepping away from the stage earlier this year, she has returned to touring, resuming performances in October.
In an exclusive interview, Nicks shared her experience of listening to music continuously while recovering. She describes how music helped her navigate difficult times, expressing gratitude for the younger artists she discovered. “I’m all over the internet. I listen to a lot of current bands,” she said, citing favorites such as The Midnight, The White Kites, and Night Traveler. “All through my recovery, I’ve listened,” she adds. “When I wasn’t feeling well at all, it just carried me on a cloud through this whole thing.”

During her October 7 concert in Phoenix, Nicks shared the stage with Night Traveler, a band she had been listening to during her recovery. Reflections from the Texas-based duo highlighted the emotional impact of opening for the Fleetwood Mac frontwoman: “We thought opening for [Stevie Nicks] would be the coolest musical moment of our lives,” they stated, noting that her kindness and sincerity left a lasting impression.
Nicks emphasized her personalized music collection, saying, “All my tapes are really curated by me.” Although she may not be technologically advanced, she has begun using streaming services like Pandora and Spotify to explore new music. “I push the thumbs-up. Love this. Don’t love that. Love this,” she explained. This practice leads to a curated list that serves as a source of inspiration in challenging times.

Exploring her past work, Nicks has also been reflecting on her 1973 album Buckingham Nicks, which she recently revisited after its re-release. She remarked on the album’s unique quality, suggesting that listeners should experience it on a high-quality sound system to fully appreciate its depth. “You’ll hear stuff in Buckingham Nicks that none of us have heard since that record came out,” she stated, highlighting the album’s rarity as it was only pressed during its initial release.
