Star-Studded Cast Joins Tom McCarthy’s New Film Following ‘Spotlight’
Oscar Winner Tom McCarthy Sets Star-Studded Cast for Upcoming Drama
Oscar-winning director Tom McCarthy, known for his work on Spotlight, has assembled an impressive cast for his forthcoming feature drama, co-financed by Sony Classics.
The film will feature Golden Globe nominee Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Golden Globe winner Evan Peters (American Horror Story), and Oscar nominees Amy Ryan (Birdman) and Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers). They will be joined by Emmy winners John Turturro (Severance) and Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), along with Actor Award nominee Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty).
Filming is set to commence next month on this untitled project, which is described as a "darkly comic drama." Sony Pictures Classics will handle the domestic release.
Based on Nathaniel Rich’s book Losing Earth, the narrative unfolds at a beachside resort in Florida in 1980. The story revolves around twenty experts who gather for a weekend conference to address the emerging global concern of CO2 emissions’ impact on climate change. Their objective, mandated by Congress, is straightforward: draft a statement outlining proposed actions—but the task proves more challenging than anticipated.
The screenplay is adapted by Thomas Bidegan, Noé Debré, and McCarthy, and the film is dedicated to the late Steve Golin.
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are among the executive producers, with Jonathan King and David Levine at Anonymous Content contributing alongside Jim Whitaker, Rae Baron, and McCarthy for Slow Pony Productions. Key department heads include director of photography Stuart Dryburgh (The Piano), production designer John Goldsmith (A Most Violent Year), and costume designer Melissa Toth (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).
Producers Jonathan Schwartz, Nick Shumaker, and Bard Dorros of Anonymous Content, alongside Mary Aloe of Aloe Entertainment, will also play significant roles in the project.
Executive producers include notable figures such as Alex Gibney, Wendy Schmidt, and Richard Perello for Jigsaw Productions, along with Damon and Affleck for Artists Equity. Other executive producers are Alex Lebovici for Hammerstone Studios, and Laurene Powell Jobs, among others.
Recent reports from TheInsider confirm the involvement of Rudd, Giamatti, and Turturro in the film.
Talent representation includes UTA and Lighthouse Management & Media for Paul Rudd, CAA and Untitled Entertainment for Evan Peters, and Gersh and Untitled Entertainment for Amy Ryan. Paul Giamatti is with UTA, while John Turturro is represented by UTA and attorney George Sheanshang.
