Star-Studded Cast Including Edgar Ramírez and Rosario Dawson Comes Together for Danny Ramirez’s Soccer Drama ‘Baton’
Danny Ramirez Expands Star-Studded Cast for Directorial Debut ‘Baton’
Actor and filmmaker Danny Ramirez has announced the addition of five esteemed actors to the ensemble of his feature directorial debut, Baton. The film will now feature Edgar Ramírez (Emilia Pérez), Eugenio Derbez (CODA), Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka), Gabriel Luna (The Last Of Us), and Mía Maestro (The Motorcycle Diaries).
Details regarding the characters remain undisclosed. Ramirez not only helms the project, but he also takes on a leading role. The cast further includes Maia Reficco, Diego Calva, Camila Mendes, Ester Expósito, Becky G, Noah Beck, and Lewis Pullman.
Currently in production in Atlanta, Baton tells the story of a soccer player portrayed by Ramirez who is determined to achieve his dreams of a professional career. After being removed from his team and exiled back to Miami, he finds his relationship with his sister at risk. The narrative unfolds as the siblings clash over their mother’s legacy, intensifying his pursuit of soccer success at potentially devastating personal costs.
The film arrives at a time when soccer garners global attention with the impending FIFA World Cup. Producers include Victoria Alonso (Avengers: Endgame, Argentina, 1985) from Mapuche, Tom Culliver and Ramirez from the newly launched Pinstripes (Dead Man’s Wire), Joshua Harris for Peachtree Media (We Bury the Dead, Mary), and Ford Corbett for Gramercy Park Media (The Shitheads, The Surfer).
Executive producers David Beckham and Nicola Howson are joined by Carlos Delgado Zarco for Level Up, R. Wesley Sierk III for CaliWood Pictures, Nathan Klingher and Mark Fasano for Gramercy Park, and a diverse team of others.
Baton is currently being pitched to buyers at EFM by the newly established foreign sales firm Manifest Pictures and Gramercy Park Media, with WME Independent and CAA managing domestic rights.
Ramirez, who recently appeared in Jacques Audiard’s Oscar-winning Emilia Pérez, has a packed slate ahead, including Drake Doremus’ romantic drama Next Life. He is represented by CAA, Impression Entertainment, and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum.
Derbez has gained recent recognition through his role in the Apple series Acapulco and is set to star alongside Camila Mendes in Carlos López Estrada’s drama Ded. He is represented by CAA, Behr, Abramson, Levy, and Johnson.
Rosario Dawson, known for her work in Disney+’s Ahsoka, is represented by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.
Gabriel Luna’s recent credits include The Last of Us, now entering its third season, as well as Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy. He will also appear in the second season of The Terminal List on Prime Video, represented by UTA, Entertainment 360, and Ziffren Brittenham.
Mía Maestro, recognized for her performances in The Motorcycle Diaries, The Strain, and Mayans M.C., is represented by Paradigm and Untitled.
