St. John Bosco Opens Season with Dominant Win Over La Serna
Defending Southern Section Division 1 baseball champion St. John Bosco commenced its season Friday with a commanding 8-0 victory against La Serna.
Julian Garcia, marking his much-anticipated return after missing last season due to an arm injury, showcased his skills by striking out five batters over four innings, surrendering no walks and no hits. Closer Jack Champlin maintained the team’s momentum, retiring the final two batters—one via strikeout.
Adding to the offensive success, Noah Everly delivered a stellar performance with three hits, while James Clark contributed with two hits and two RBIs.
In other matchups, Orange Lutheran triumphed over Crespi with a score of 10-0, spearheaded by Gary Morse, who struck out eight batters in five innings. Brady Murrietta also shined, tallying two hits and two RBIs for the Lancers.
Gahr won a tightly contested game against El Dorado, clinching a 1-0 victory with a run in the ninth inning. Jake Ourique was impressive on the mound, allowing just one hit over six innings.
JSerra faced Prosper (Texas) and secured a 17-9 win; Brise Boop led the offensive charge with a home run, a double, and four RBIs. Teammate Blake Bowen added a home run and three hits.
Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated Servite 2-0, with Beckett Berg allowing just three hits in six innings. Jacob Madrid and Malakye Matsumoto each recorded two hits for the 4-0 team.
In additional games, Granada Hills beat Sylmar 6-1, with Max Szczech contributing a home run, double, and single. Moorpark defeated Rio Mesa 7-3, bolstered by Carson Cerny’s home run and five RBIs.
Hart narrowly beat Bishop Alemany 4-2, receiving six shutout innings from pitcher Cayden Kollasch. South Hills secured a 4-0 win against Bonita, featuring a four-hitter from Carson Baker.
In the boys basketball arena, Gardena Serra edged out Pilibos 57-51, claiming the Southern Section Division 5 championship. Chinemerem Anyikwa’s 25 points led Serra, while Demetri Galadjian scored 23 for Pilibos.
In girls basketball, St. Margaret’s triumphed over Murrieta Valley 57-41, with Jayden Witten leading the charge with 19 points. Savanna also celebrated a victory, defeating Warren 46-25, as Jazara Madrid contributed 16 points to secure the Division 6 title.
