Results from Friday’s First Round
In the opening round of the Southern Section softball playoffs, several teams made a strong impression with decisive victories.
Division 1 Highlights
Murrieta Mesa dominated Valley View with a 10-0 shutout. Orange Lutheran mirrored this performance against Millikan, also winning 10-0. Other notable matches included Chino Hills edging El Modena 2-1 and Etiwanda narrowly defeating Agoura 14-13. Palos Verdes secured a tight 3-2 win over Riverside King, while Cypress bested Fullerton 4-2. Ayala won convincingly against Charter Oak, finishing 11-1. Riverside Poly triumphed over California with a score of 7-3, and Norco managed a slender 2-1 victory against Marina.
Division 3 Results
Rancho Cucamonga achieved a solid 9-1 victory over Paloma Valley. Great Oak won against West Torrance 5-2, while Edison secured an 8-5 win over El Segundo. El Toro shut out Colton with a score of 9-0, and Murrieta Valley edged out Redondo Union in a thrilling 9-8 match. North Torrance defeated Beaumont 5-0, West Ranch secured a close 7-6 win against Trabuco Hills, and San Juan Hills triumphed 8-7 over Riverside North. Oak Park bested Cerritos Valley Christian 10-4, Highland won 7-2 against Northview, and La Serna shut out Carter with a score of 4-0. Division 5 Action
Anaheim delivered a commanding performance against Flintridge Sacred Heart, winning 11-0. Patriot edged out Arrowhead Christian 11-9, while Temple City triumphed over Rancho Christian 9-6. Grace also won decisively against Buena Park, finishing 11-0. Crean Lutheran squeaked past Alemany 3-2. Shadow Hills defeated Cerritos 8-3, while San Marcos delivered a shutout victory against Leuzinger, 10-0. South El Monte won a close match against Long Beach Wilson, 7-5. Covina defeated Garden Grove Santiago convincingly at 11-1, while Muir beat Rio Hondo Prep 8-7. Santa Monica edged Katella 6-5, and Ontario triumphed over Norwalk 6-2. Northwood secured a high-scoring 18-11 victory against Duarte.
Division 7 Overview
Bloomington narrowly defeated Fillmore 9-8. Miller claimed an 11-3 victory over Savanna. Santa Ana Calvary Chapel triumphed 11-4 against Riverside Springs Magnolia, while Faith Baptist delivered a remarkable performance against St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, winning 18-4. Twentynine Palms secured a high-scoring win against Rancho Alamitos, 16-15. Riverside Notre Dame triumphed 12-2 over Costa Mesa. Firebaugh edged Pioneer 9-8, while Chadwick won decisively against Desert Christian Academy 6-1. Cathedral City narrowly defeated Artesia 2-1, and Orange claimed a 9-3 victory over Bellflower.
